It's probably one of the most expensive cities in the world. Food prices are high. Housing is high. It's expensive for Japanese. And many tourists have to shop around for hotels and restaurants they can afford.
Prices for comparable goods and services are almost always higher in Tokyo than in New York. Hotel rooms cost more, restaurant means cost more, and alcoholic beverages cost much more.
Visitors to Tokyo are sometimes shocked by the prices. A cup of coffee can be several dollars. A movie can cost twenty dollars. But at least the subway and bus fares are still reasonable.

I wanted to document my experiences first hand so I could look back on my life. I wanted to share some experiences with some friends and family, and I wanted to prevent boredom or feeling isolated. It’s not as hard as it looks. When I first came to Japan almost 8 years ago I didn’t know anything and Japanese culture never interested me that. Wow, have things changed! Japan is great, and Japan is pretty sweet. As my personal adventure in Japan, I think Japanese are peaceable and gentle, few question authority and as a result its cities are some of the safest in the world. The honesty of the people is a rare treat. Wallets are handed into the police with the cash still inside and trying to leave a tip can cause staff to run after you in an attempt to return your ‘forgotten’ change. Japan differs greatly from its Asian neighbors and there are so many things of what makes people want to live here.
Yeah I have hear "good" references about this, I wonder if with $10.000 you can spend some good vacations in here for at least 15 days, but many people recommend to visit any other province.
